Jim was a mighty fine man to have as a neighbor. His class, and the strong and purposeful way he carried himself always made me straighten up. I was always more than happy to provide him a ride when needed. Pride is what I saw whenever I looked at him. He will be missed.

My favorite memory of Mr. Jim is the time when he asked me to help him hang up the Christmas lights on his house. He was by far much taller than me, even when I was standing on a stool next to him. I just kept telling him to scoot over so I didn’t look so stinking short. We kept laughing as I, being the 5’4” kid that I was next to this tall man, kept making my best attempts to get the lights on the hook with only one try for each, but alas, I kept missing. Everytime I missed one, Mr. Jim just stepped in, without a stool, and easily put the lights on the hook and giving me a joking smirk. I would say, “No Mr. Jim, I’ve got this one.” He would just respond with his usual “Okay, then,” and stepped aside (you know, the ‘okay then’ that really means ‘suit yourself’). He was quite the handyman, a great pet lover, and even a more amazing father and husband. He will be missed.

I had the honor of getting to share a wall with Jim and Linda for the last 7 years. I thank God for giving me such wonderful neighbors, who quickly became family. I first officially met Jim shortly after we moved in, he knocked on our door with a large box of popsicles for our children. He was a man of few words but his words were always kind and he never hesitated to help anyway he could. We often talked out front when we did our yard work or decorating our yards for the holidays. But one of my favorite memories was one of the many times I’d see him on his nightly walk with his dogs. On this particular night he had his small Senior dog dragging and pulling him behind while his much younger and larger dog was pulling and dragging him forward. His struggle was quite the show. He was always the master with the dogs, but I think it’s safe to say the dogs were in charge this time. Jim will be deeply missed. Our street and hearts will be forever void of a kind neighbor, a forever friend and a dear family member.
