Obituary of William R Coonce

William ("Bill") Coonce, 79, died peacefully on March 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  

Bill was raised in Tucson, where he attended St. Peter and Paul School, Salpointe High School, and the University of Arizona.  Bill became a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which later became the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, then ultimately the Drug Enforcement Administration.  After retiring from DEA, Bill worked for the Pima County Sheriff's Office HIDTA program.  Bill's law enforcement career spanned 35 years and saw him assigned to numerous locations such as Los Angeles, Seattle, Miami, Washington D.C., Detroit, and Tucson.  

Bill loved to laugh.  He was an avid golfer and world traveler.  He and his wife enjoyed taking cruises, visiting family throughout the country, and spending time with their grandchildren.

Son of William Vaughn and Anne Marie Coonce, Bill was the oldest of twelve children.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeff.  Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy; his daughters, Leighanne [Tod] Preuss and Stephanie ("Stevee") [Jeff] Flohr; his grandchildren, Rowan Preuss, Piper Preuss, and Alexandra Flohr; his siblings, John [Mildred], Tom [Jane], Jim [Susan], Dan [Pam], Marita [Andre] Lareau, Andy, Laurie [Sam] Durr, Tim [Mary], Tony, and Jerry [Kelly]; as well as 7 nieces, 14 nephews, 13 grand-nieces, and 14 grand-nephews.  

There will be a viewing on Friday, March 17, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Adair Funeral Home Avalon Chapel (8090 N. Northern Ave, Tucson, AZ 85704), and a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, at St. Mark's Catholic Church (2727 W. Tangerine Rd, Oro Valley, AZ 85742).  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson's research at www.michaeljfox.org.
