Obituary of Sofia Martorana

Born in Caracas, Venezuela on June 28, 1963 and died in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 15 of 2021, at the age of 57. Sofia Perez Oliva was the daughter of Sonia Oliva of Cuba and Hector Perez Marchelli of Caracas, Venezuela. 

Until the age of 13 years old, Sofia and her siblings (Sandra Perez, Tanya Esnault and David Perez) and her father and stepmother, Helda Perez Marchelli, lived in Caracas and Trujillo, Venezuela.

In 1976, the family moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where her father pursued a university career in linguistic studies at the UW Madison campus.

At the age of 18 years old, and still in Madison, Sofia married Luis Escalante of Venezuela and had her first child Sofia Andreina Escalante Pérez. 

At the age of 28 years old, Sofia had Alexander Martorana with her second husband, Gianni Martorana, and the next year had Kristian, both born in Tucson, Arizona.

Sofia was a lover of life and had many passions. She loved cooking and teaching her cockatiels to speak several languages. She also loved writing and salsa dancing.

She leaves behind her three children and grandchildren, Aaliyah, Gabriela and Shea, and her two former spouses, as well as her biological sister, Sandra, and her half siblings Sonita, Evelyn, Tanya and David, and her stepmother Helda
