Russ & I were passive aggressively rude to each other in high school. I turned him down when he asked me to Prom, he managed to fill my locker with confetti.
After high school, we were inseparable. We moved into our first apartment together straight from our childhood homes. We traveled all over the country & Mexico. Stood next to each other at funerals, Christenings, Ceremonies of all sorts. I sang at both of his siblings weddings. He was at my Sisters graduations. He played golf with my Dad all the time.
We grew into adults together. We are each other’s youth. That’s mine to keep, always was. First loves are the foundation of the future, he set me on the right path in the end. Compassionate to a fault; more than I deserved.
You would be hard pressed to find a kinder, more genuine, extraordinary guy. His humor was legend, he was friends with everyone. He made people feel special when he spoke to them, like the world stopped spinning because his full attention was focused on you. A thoughtful romantic, a selfless partner.
He could build anything. He rebuilt the Fox theatre. The box office in front of the Fox - he built himself. My handprint is in the middle of the ceiling, another thoughtful gesture, there are so many. We coined the term “crunch time at the Fox” if we were going to be late to somewhere; my Family still says that. He rebuilt the Federal Courthouse Downtown - the list is endless. I cannot tell you how many times I got stuck at a work site so he could finish something.
He hid jewelry for me to find, made handmade wooden boxes to hold the trinkets & letters he gave me over the years. He filled my Moms house with pink balloons & birthday gifts when I turned 19. He always had a date planned. The way he proposed was straight out of a fairytale. He was quite literally Prince Charming. Selfless, honest & charismatic.
I cannot believe that such a beautiful soul went home so early. He loved God, his Family & his Friends so much it was almost like an aura around him, his kindness cast light, trailing miracles behind him when others only have shadows; a beacon in the dark. He loved hard & his loyalty ran deep.
I have always missed him but I thought that I would never have to hurt over Russ Nyman again. I was so very wrong; I am heartbroken. His life was intertwined with mine for so long, I won’t be able to put this behind me. I’ll never get over this.
I am so very sorry for his loss & my God what a loss. So many people are heavy with unspeakable sorrow & grief because one of the brightest lights in the world went out with him. I know that he just went home but heartbreak isn’t soothed with truth.
William Russell Nyman, the guy in high school who drove me crazy on purpose. The man who put an engagement & wedding ring on my finger. My bridge from adolescence to adulthood. So many things that we shared that I am grateful to carry, even today because I never put them down.
God knows I love you Russ, through all these long years between us. That kind of love doesn’t go away, it simply fades with time. Like memories aging at the corners of an old photograph. I’m shattered that your sand ran out so soon old friend.
I’ve kept our promises & secrets for 18 years. I’m bereft you had to take yours with you now, but I’ll keep them for us both all the same. I’m so sorry big guy. I’ll see you later. 10 till 2. I Love you.

I was the Student Council Advisor when Russ was Senior Class President. He made me laugh all the time and his fellow officers enjoyed his fun personality and contributions. Seem to remember a senior prank---anyone remember Bob's Big Boy! LOL Much love to Russ's wife and children. He will be missed. Ms. Andersen
