Eulogy from Lena's son Paul: Blessings to all our dear family and friends as we gather here to share our thoughts and memories, honoring the long and fruitful life of my Mom, Lena. This is Paul speaking, her youngest son, —unable to be physically present at this memorial event in Scottsdale because of the need for social distancing; but I am present in spirit—just as my mom has departed from the physical world, but is also present with us here today. It sounds like a cliche to say that mom was a devoted wife and dedicated to raising four children; but I know for certain that she was fulfilled in her obligations to our family and felt joy in taking care of us and providing for our security. She was a meticulous housecleaner, great with daily routine and her diet; even doing the exercise routines on television to stay in shape. There’s nothing easy about raising a family as I have found out in later years. And now my appreciation for her love and devotion is greater than ever before in my life. Such a beautiful soul, our mom had a quiet sensitivity and refinement that you could see in her face and beautiful blue eyes. She was always an advocate for things of“quality”, and that included people as well as things. With high standards as well as a sharp and critical mind, mom had her own strong opinions. But ultimately, she never felt that disagreements were worth causing discord and arguments. She was willing to accept people for who they were and not impose herself on them or their beliefs. She preferred harmony and compromise in this way, and was able to get along famously with strong-willed personalities. Along with my Dad, my mom also had a great love of music that rubbed off on our entire family. As full-blooded second generation Italian-Americans we were raised with great appreciation of the arts, which has always been an encouragement to me. Sorrowful now to see you go, Mom; I feel you alive in my heart and will always hear your sweet voice in my ear. Glad to hear from “my Paulie”. My conversations with you will not end here. I will still be calling on you for advice and ways that I can be more loving and understanding with Angela and the boys. They all love you so much. I’m so comforted at this moment Mom, to know that you have never doubted the love we have for each other. We have expressed it so many times. But I must also thank you and Dad for pointing me in the direction of God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. As your son, and also being a disciple of Christ, I have learned that forgiveness, compassion and Love are more important that the pleasures of this material world. It is truly the fruit of being a Christian. A joy beyond our physical world is born of the Spirit and extends far beyond this life. It comforts me now, even in my grief, to see you entering through Heaven’s doorway : Eternal Love and eternal Life. May the joy of the Spirit dwell with us also here on earth as it does in your heavenly place. I will be listening for your sweet voice until I see you again. Love you forever. Paulie

My Dear Mother was a big part of my life. We would walk to Diamond's, (now Dillard's) when I was 8 to 12 years old, in the scorching Phoenix sun of summer for something to do. We've always enjoyed shopping together. She was always a caring Mother, there at any moment to listen to our issues or give advice. When my Dear Dad passed in November 1983, my boys, Gabe , 5 and Michael, almost 3, moved into her house in North Scottsdale for eight months. We were a family, taking care of each other. The four of use grew up together until my oldest son moved out in 1996. Through the years my Mom and I were never too far apart, there for each other. You will be missed Mom! You will always be in our hearts and minds! We LOVE You! Your daughter Jean.
