Obituary of Kirby Jean Peterson

Kirby Jean Peterson, 62, of Marana, passed away on January 10, 2020 surrounded by family. Kirby was born September 11, 1957 to John and MarJean (Beilke) Peterson at Fargo ND. She grew up in Scottsdale AZ and attended Arizona State University and earned a degree in nursing in 1980. On August 28th, 1998 Kirby was united in marriage to the late Loren Leonberger in Tucson. In high school, she loved riding her horse Mahogany Rebel in Hunter-Jumper & Equestrian competitions. Kirby's nursing career included working in the ER, ICU, Heart Clinic, Neurological Center and for a short time as a helicopter flight nurse until she retired after 35 years of serving others. She was involved in animal rescue. She recently became involved in IDPA where she participated in shooting competitions and became a certified range safety officer. Kirby dedicated her life to helping family, friends, and all types of animals in so many ways. Kirby is survived by her sister Marcia Turner of Chandler, AZ, Todd (Sharon) Peterson of Fall Creek, WI and significant other Patrick Stefanski Flagstaff, AZ, seven nephews and nieces and twelve great nephews and nieces. Kirby is preceded in death by her husband Loren Leonberger, father John M. Peterson, mother MarJean H. Peterson, brother Monte M. Peterson and great nephew Keaton W. Nelson. Funeral services will be Saturday January 18th, 2020 at 10:00 at the Adair Avalon Chapel in Oro Valley.
