My husband Lee and I knew Kirby from our work with AZ DPS and TMC ER/Trauma services. She was a lovely woman with a heart of gold who touched many people. My wife Antje(Angie) and I knew Kirby and Loren well from our work at TMC, both with Angie as a flight nurse/ER nurse and my work as an ER pit Doc. Last saw her at Loren's funeral--she was as vibrant as ever given the circumstances, and I can only say that she was as beautiful inside as she was outside. I met Kirby when Loren and my husband David Kleinman worked together on the DPS helicopter. (Loren was the pilot the first time I got to fly with them.) She was so friendly and beautiful, and we were so happy they'd found each other. We attended their wedding, and years later, Loren's funeral. We have accompanied Kirby on most of the Loren Memorial Hikes, and she and I did some other hikes - and discussed doing many more. A week ago I sent her a text about getting together this week to plan this year's Memorial Hike, then got the shocking and incomprehensible news. To Todd, Marcia, and Patrick we send our sympathies - the past few months have brought so much sadness to all your lives. May you find some amount of comfort in knowing just how much Kirby was respected and loved by so many, and may the happy memories eventually help ease the pain of this shocking and sad loss.

Saddened doesn't even begin to describe the loss I feel for my beautiful friend Kirby. We met on the pistol range and spent many hours practicing and laughing together. I saw her the morning of Jan 8th, getting ready to do what she loved....shoot her new pistol. We shared a hug and the words "good morning my friend, you look beautiful as always."

Kirby’s passing is such a shock! I am her first cousin, and when young, we spent countless hours together. She would come to the farm where we broke horses, dressed up kittens, and made mud pies and forts When I would go to her house in Buffalo, we would play in her basement, fully equipped with every doll sized furnishing one could imagine. We watched the Wizard of Oz together every year. She pierced my ears with an ice cube and sewing needle. Kirby, my other cousin Terry, and I were so close, and our adventures never ended. We grew older, and grew apart, but I am forever grateful for those times together!! My deepest sympathy to Marcia, Todd, and her extended family and friends. She was always so full of life and love!!

I first met Kirby about 20 years ago when I put in an application to Yorkie Rescue. The form asked if I had a dog, yes I did a Yorkie named Kirby I got a call back with the response, “hi I’m Kirby but I’m not your dog.” It was the start of a wonderful friendship. Then we discovered my parent knew her parents through square dancing events back in Fargo-Moorhead. But it took our love of dogs to bring us together. I sat on the floor in the ER the day Loren died. We shared the pains of multiple back surgeries & I won the bet when she said she was going home the morning after her surgery but could barely sit up to get out of bed the next day. I will you dearly Kirby. RIP your all your pains & suffering are over.
