Obituary of Bradley Jonnell Benson
Brad Benson passed away in his home surrounded by comfort and love on Sunday, April 21. Brad is predeceased by his ex-wife Jo Rae. He is survived by his brother Bryan and sister in law Tracy, his niece Tyler and his nephew Bryan, and his fiancée, Frances, as well as by many close friends.
Brad was born in Minnesota in 1945, but spent most of his youth in Tucson, Arizona. He earned a B.S. in Liberal Arts with a focus in Chemistry and Zoology from the University of Arizona in 1970, and later earned his Ph.D. from the U of A in Biochemistry in 1975.
Brad used his extensive education and scientific expertise to help to improve the lives of others through his work in the pharmaceutical industry. He was a committed and driven scientist who was truly a life-long learner. He worked in myriad leadership roles helping to develop strategic alliances and joint ventures with small biotech and biopharma companies. He focused most of his career directing project teams in a variety of therapeutic areas including infectious disease, diabetes, chronic inflammation, immunology, as well as pulmonary biology.
When he was not engaged in career pursuits, Brad enjoyed numerous passions and hobbies. He was a true U of A fan and enjoyed watching the Wildcats play. Brad was a member of the Porsche Club and loved to go on long drives to experience the world. From an early age, Brad adored the water. He loved diving and owned many boats throughout his life. He especially enjoyed boating with his dear friends, John and Dena. Brad lived a full life—enjoying every moment with close friends and family. His wonderful sense of humor, intense wit and good-hearted nature will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
