I knew Andy in the dorm at Purdue. He was a natural and creative leader, being both sensible and eccentric in setting the tone of our group. A tradition developed of watching Star Trek reruns in his room - there were often a dozen fellows there, drawn to the social hub of the floor. Andy had a Campbell's soup pillow that he would throw at anyone breaking the mostly-respected rule of silence during the show. This turned into a challenge to come up with wisecracks that were sufficiently creative to be worth the pillow punishment.

I send you my deepest condolences for you and for your family. I can’t even begin to imagine how painful this is for you all. May Jehovah God provide you the strength you need to cope with this difficult situation. The Bible provides hope that you will be reunited with your loved one at Acts 24:15, which states, "there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." I hope this message provides some comfort to friends and family, and I again offer my sincere condolences.

I cannot put into words how much Andy meant to me, both professionally and personally. I had the great opportunity to teach systems architecture with Andy in the Johns Hopkins Systems Engineering program. Andy was not only a great engineer, but also a great teacher and mentor to not only the students, but also to me. He told the best stories! Later, we shared our cancer journeys... victories and challenges. Finally, he shared his excitement at the birth of his grandson. Andy was a great friend from the moment I met him 4 years ago and I will miss him so much! My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

In the spring of 31 C.E., Jesus Christ boldly promised: “Just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to. Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus’] voice and come out.” (John 5:21, 28, 29) Yes, Jesus Christ promised that millions now dead will live again on this earth and have the prospect of remaining on it forever under peaceful, paradisaic conditions. (Luke 23:43; John 3:16; 17:3; compare Psalm 37:29 and Matthew 5:5.) Since Jesus made the promise, it is safe to assume that he is willing to fulfill it.

My brother Andrew was a good man, kind and faithful in the truest sense of the word, and will be missed. He loved his wife and children and was a man of many talents and interests. Growing up in the same home, it always seemed to me that he took our father's advice to heart and followed one of his primary tenets; 'You can be one of two things in life, independently wealthy or independently competent.' Andrew excelled at any endeavor he put his mind to.
