Obituary of Gertrude Rose Pleyte

PLEYTE, Gertrude Rose 105, of Tucson, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born Oct 21, 1911 in Vesper, WI to Frank and Anna (Wirtz) Huser. She was fourth of 13 children all born on the family farm. After finishing high school, she moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met and married Jay Pleyte. The couple later moved to Mazatlan, Mexico where Jay built and owned the Hotel La Siesta. They also lived in Tucson and then moved to Deming, NM. She moved back to Tucson in 2000. In addition to raising two children, she enjoyed fishing, golfing, bridge, games, puzzles, and loved to play jokes on people. Throughout her life she was a kind person, generous to charities, and devoted to the Catholic Church. Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; and three sisters, Sister Elaine (Hospital Sisters of St. Francis), Sister Nerine and Sister Petranda (both of the School Sisters of Notre Dame) and five brothers, Louis, Joseph, Victor, Herman, and Charles. She is survived by sons, Roe (Selena) of Tucson, and John (Parrie) of Chelan, WA; three sisters, Sister Elvon (Hospital Sisters of St. Francis) of Springfield, IL, Elizebeth Bymers of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Sister Elreda (Hospital Sisters of St. Francis) of Himiji, Japan; one brother, Edmund Huser of Tucson; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Catalina Catholic Church, 14380 N. Oracle Rd., with the Reverend Larry Sanders officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Santa Catalina Catholic Church or the American Heart Assn. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel.
