Obituary of Arliss Anna Powell

Arliss Anna Powell was born on February 9, 1923 to Walter and Laura Baumgarten on a farm northwest of Clarinda, Iowa. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School there and graduated from the 8th grade as Valedictorian of Page County, Iowa. She graduated from Clarinda High School and attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Carroll Powell on June 13, 1943 in Des Moines. They moved to Tucson, Arizona in March 1957. Her husband died December 1998 after 55 ½ years of marriage. While in Tucson, Arliss worked in several Property/Casualty Insurance agencies and was active in the Tucson Association of Insurance Women. She served as its president for two terms and was named Insurance Woman of the Year in 1960, 1970 and 1980. Arliss and her husband were active in several hobbies including model railroading. They built their own layout at their home. She edited the Arizona Division newsletter for six years and was named Modeler of the Year in 1990. She is survived by cousins in South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Arizona and many friends. Donations may be made to your favorite charity.
