Kevin Motzkin

Obituary of Kevin Walter Motzkin

Motzkin, Kevin Walter died peacefully at his home at the age of 58. Kevin is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Teresa; their 5 children, Daniel (Stephanie Homewytewa), Christopher, Emily, Rebecca (Michael Wilson) and Kaitlyn; grandchildren, Adrienne, Waverly May and Colt; father, Edward James Motzkin; siblings, Terri (Rich) Johnson) David (Ande),Motzkin, Annie, Kristy, Cory, William and Koriena Motzkin; sister-in-law, Debbie Motzkin brother-in-law, Shawn Michael Foreman and his large extended family.

Kevin's pride and joy was being a grandfather.  He was crazy about his grandchildren and loved every moment he was able to spend with them.

Kevin was passionate about helping people.  He began his career in funeral service at Holy Hope Cemetery.  He and his wife, a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, owned and operated Angel Valley Funeral Home. One of Kevin's former co-workers remembers him as caring deeply for the families he served and going over and above to accommodate their needs.

At the time of Kevin's death, he was the Manager of the Sun Tran Parts Department where he loved working for 12 years.  Kevin's attention to detail and his meticulous work ethics were highlighted in a Sun Tran article dated August 2022.  https://www.suntran.com/parts/. Kevin was scheduled to speak about his department during the "ThinkTransit" conference the morning of his death.

Since childhood, Kevin was fascinated by the Presidents of the United States.  He knew everything there was to know about every president, even their pant size.  No surprise that his daughter Emily's dogs are named, Nixon, Jefferson, and Roosevelt and her cat's name is Ulysses.

Kevin had a great sense of humor.  He had the funniest belly laugh and would laugh uncontrollably.  Everyone around him would start laughing because he was laughing, but the things he laughed at were not funny to anyone else. Just Kevin's hilarious laugh!

Kevin loved country music from the 70's, 80's and 90's.  His absolute favorite was Conway Twitty, but he loved Charlie Pride, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Paul Overstreet and Johnny Cash.  He enjoyed watching old television shows such as Matlock, Monk, Emergency, Adam 12, Dragnet, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle and the Commish.  His current favorite was Blue Bloods.

Kevin had a brobdingnagian vocabulary - aka: gigantic; huge; immense. He loved to dazzle others with his big words.  Each time his soon-to-be 8-year-old granddaughter, Adrienne visited, Kevin would give her a "word of the day". His kids would ask for his help when writing school papers, but it was evident the vocabulary was not that of a Jr. High or High School student.

Kevin was always willing to help anybody - family, friend or stranger. He was credited for saving a life in the TMC parking lot when he pulled a man from his car and began CPR.

During what turned out to be Kevin's final days, he was singing Taylor Swift songs to his wife.  He reminisced about when their daughters were growing up and used to sing and dance to Taylor Swift in their living room. He delighted in those performances in the past and the recent memories of those days brought him pure joy.

Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Marie Motzkin, brother, Edward Joseph Motzkin, mother and father-in-law Jerry and Sandra (Shoemaker) Foreman, brother-in-law, Robert Alan Foreman.
