Obituary of Frances Joan Carter

Frances Joan Carter Harden, A Legacy of Love and Faith

Joan, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully at the
age of 98.

She lived a life overflowing with love, laughter, and unwavering
faith. She cherished two great loves, S. Wayne Harden and Brewster
Carter who both preceded her in death. A testament to the enduring
power of love and connection. Her two children though both predeceased
by their mother, Thomas Doyle Smith and Permelia Mary Harden,
continued to inspire her in spirit and memories throughout her years.
The warmth of her love extended to grandchildren and great
grandchildren, each one a reflection of her vibrant and everlasting
spirit. Jo’s heart extended beyond just family encompassing a myriad
of people into her life and legacy.

Jo's nurturing spirit was legendary. She possessed an uncanny ability
to make everyone around her feel cared for and supported. Whether it
was a listening ear, a comforting word, or a delicious family recipe
cookie. Jo took care of everyone with a selflessness that knew no
bounds. Her home was a haven, a place of warmth, joy, and laughter
where everyone felt welcome. From Friday happy hour to the Christmas
season her doors were open. Christmas was a special favorite of hers,
over the years she made countless ornaments and decorations. Christmas
music and cookies could be found all season long, this time of year
was truly her favorite.

Her life was a tapestry woven with countless stories and memories.
Born in Hagerstown, Indiana, she still has the front door handle to
her family home. After school she began working including a factory in
World War II, after moving from Indiana to Arizona, she began a retail
career. Joan worked for Sanger Harris which went through several
mergers to become Robinson May today. She was recognized countless
times for her work throughout the years including a recognition trip
for top bridal consultant. We remember the Black Friday work days and
visiting the store with her throughout the years.

Genealogy and family history was very important to Jo. Her home, a
tribute to the family with family heirlooms and photos. She traced the
family lineage all the way to the American Revolution. Jo was a member
of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and attended many events
and luncheons throughout the years. She cherished sharing these
experiences, each tale a testament to a life well-lived and a love for
family. Her great grandchildren, Cadence and Layla were especially
close to her, absorbing her wisdom and love forging a bond that
transcended generations.

Jo will be missed beyond measure. Her memory will remain a constant
presence, a source of strength, and a reminder of the power of love
and faith. We carry her spirit with us every day, forever grateful for
the love and guidance she bestowed.

Some words she left for all of us;

“Perhaps some comfort can come if we think upon what we had, not
rather that what we have lost. Thus the moment of precious memories
serves to lite the life which we who remain must continue to live.”
