I was saddened to learn yesterday of Norm's death. I knew him during my 23 years at St John's College, University of Manitoba, and treasured my friendship with him which was nourished by much golfing and many chats in the Common Room. He was an outstanding Fellow of the College, contributing generously of his time to initiatives on many fronts, especially student-centred teaching. A highlight was his Deanship, during which he contributed tirelessly and with all his abundant energy to making the College a better place for students as well as staff and fellows. His great good humour and his willingness to try new things left a permanent legacy in the College. My heart goes out to Bev and his family. Murdith McLean

I knew Norman from our years together at Cargilfield
School in Scotland in the early 1950s.
I received the same scholarship to this prep school and to Fettes College but a year later and he was
my mentor for the first month there. He was kind,
enthusiastic, supportive and a much respected
and accomplished student there and a perfect
guide to a fellow Canadian freshman in a very
strict environment.
As it happened, he returned to Canada following
his first year at Fettes on the same plane as I did
following my last year at Cargilfield and we sat together. Forty years later, I returned to the school to
make a radio documentary for the CBC on our years
there and how the school had evolved since we left.
He was a principal contributor to the one hour Ideas program. My memory of him now, seventy years since we first met, has not changed at all. He was outstanding in so many ways and unforgettable.
My sincere condolences to his family. Don Mowatt

Dear Bev, Ewen, Faye and Family,
The McCaslin Family has always been fascinated by the amazing accomplishments of the Cameron Family and of course, Norm's amongst them. I recall that his down to earth nature made him easy to talk to which reminded me so much of Aunt Vera.
I hope that you are able to take some comfort from the services for him.
Sincerely,
Paul McCaslin

Norm represented so much to his community in Arizona. His talents were most recently on display at an event where he showed off his woodworking skills, even a bowl that had a hole in it which he loved being teased about. His accomplishments spanned a variety of community volunteer work, including a myriad of ways to save expenses. For several years he installed a pool cover for the winter months. He served on our Board -- twice! While his photo at the top here apparently shows his quiet, pensive side, he smiled and laughed easily. He also was proactive when the time called for it. With his knowledge and research, he could write volumes to support important points! And, finally, I always saw him as loyal to his family and friends. Norm, you will be missed! Warmest regards to Bev, Faye, Ewen, and all the family who must deal with the loss of a family icon! Those of us who were lucky enough to be Norm's friend will feel his loss as well.
