Jared E. Flayer Obituary
Jared Earl Flayer, of Oro Valley, peacefully passed away at home on January 28, 2024. Born on August 5, 1961, in Flat Rock, Michigan, he was the son of Edward and Betty Flayer, and brother to Ed, Steve, Joel, and Edye. He met his soulmate, Sue (Kane) Flayer, at Siena Heights University in 1982, before graduating in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. Jared and Sue married on September 14, 1984, before moving to Arizona permanently in 1987, where they raised their family. Jared and Sue were married nearly 40 years and continued to be lifelong soulmates, best friends, and world travelers.
Jared and Sue have two children, Jordan, and Jessica. Jared loved cooking for his family for Sunday dinners, reminiscing about family camping trips and vacations, as well as sharing stories to impart wisdom and life lessons. Jared had many natural gifts, some of which include his decisiveness, integrity, and charisma. He spent 35 years in food service at HDS/Morrison where he developed meaningful relationships with colleagues and clients. Jared aimed to be a good leader, mentor, and teacher. He succeeded.
As a true traveler, Jared spent most of his career traveling across the US week to week. Upon retirement, he made it his mission to see the rest of the world while also checking off a bucket list item by obtaining his master’s in business administration in 2021, also from Siena Heights University. Jared and Sue traveled all across Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia, with his favorite stop being Greece.
Jared is survived by his wife, Sue; children Jordan and Jessica; siblings Ed (Sally), Steve (Carol), Joel (Heather), and Edye (Chuck). Along with his mother-in-law, Maureen Krause, sisters in law Colleen (Joe), Kathy (John), Kelly (Joe) and brother in law, Patrick (Rachel). There are many nieces, nephews, and extended family members that will remember him fondly.
Jared has touched the lives of so many; he will endlessly be missed and will never be forgotten.
Jared’s family is planning a celebration of life for a later date.
