Carol Jean Porter

Carol Jean (Regan) Porter was born in Jerome, Arizona on January 22, 1936.  Carol passed away on October 14th.  She is survived by her sister Patricia (Regan) Estrada, her daughters Sandra Ann (Porter) Golliher, Constance Lynn (Porter) Freeland, and son, Ronald Gene Porter.   She is also survived by her grandchildren: Crystal Ann Porter, Ronald Gene Porter Jr., Rebecca Coral Porter, Michael Jeffery Hamilton, Bonnie Renee (Hamilton) Verhoeven, Nicholas Javier Araya, David Ernest Benitez,  Georgia Jean (Pratt) , John David Pratt.  Carol is also survived by her 14 great-grandchildren. 

She was a child of Jerome and then Glendale, Arizona.  Carol graduated from Glendale Union High School, Arizona State Teachers College (ASU), and began her teaching career in Glendale.  Carol moved with her husband, Donald, to Tucson and taught here.  She taught in the Flowing Wells School District and substituted in Oracle Arizona.

She was proceeded in her death by her daughter, Vickie Rene (Porter) Pratt, her husband Donald Eustace Porter as well as her grandsons Brian Donald Hamilton and Robert Rhodes Jr.  Carol was married to Donald (Don) for 50 years.  They built two houses and her final home was in El Mirage before moving to Lake Havasu, then back to Tucson.  She resided at her son’s house and lived with him and her youngest daughter, Constance, before she passed. 

Carol is in the State of Arizona Hall of Softball Hall of fame for her exploits with the Glendale Sweethearts, a semi-pro softball team.  She was always athletic and gave her children good advice on how to make it in sports, “Do What Your Coach asks you to do”.   

Carol was a fine artist and painted quite a bit.  She also did some sandblasting that came out beautifully.  At the end of her life with her arthritis in her hands taking a toll on her she kept doing needlework that was outstanding. 

Carol passed quietly in a hospice center after three days in Casa de Los Luz.  She was in the hospital 4 days prior to that with pneumonia, heart problems, and a blockage of her esophagus.  She was 87 years old.  She will be thoroughly missed.
