Obituary of Edgar Gene Munro

Edgar G. (Distel) Munro, age 76, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, with his wife Alexandra, and his stepdaughter Lisa Gentry was at his bedside. Edgar was born to his parents the late Eddie John Distel, and Anita F. (Distel) Munro, and his father George H. Munro in Montrose, Colorado October 23, 1946. He continued his studies, and he was one of the youngest cadets to attend the Naval Academy at Annapolis. While attending the academy he was a midshipman, but later promoted to Lt. JG., and after leaving the academy her served as a reservist sending our guys over to Vietnam. So, after returning from the Naval Academy, Ed went to Mesa County Community College, and from there he went to CU at Boulder, Boulder, Colorado where he graduated in the top 50 of his class with a law degree. After graduating law school, Ed opened a law practice in Grand Junction, Colorado. Upon moving to Tucson, he was employed with the City of Tucson, Prosecutor’s office, and then a few years later he opened his own practice up until he retired in 2000.

While Ed lived in Colorado, he was a member of the Colorado Bar Association, as well as the Colorado Supreme Court. After moving to Tucson, AZ he became a member of the Arizona Bar Association, and was employed at the Pima County Prosecutors, before opening his own practice in Tucson. He then retired in 2000. After retirement, he started Powderhorn Distributing, Inc., until his illness. There were many things that he enjoyed like watching the

Army/Navy football game, the Denver Broncos, CU football, swing music, and old car shows. Ed even enjoyed playing softball against the other prosecutor’s and lawyers in the county. He played tennis every week with his wife, and while attending the UofA for a semester, he was able to teach tennis while attending. He also was a huge fan of the highland games, and he enjoyed them. He enjoyed learning about his Scottish heritage, which most people didn’t know. He enjoyed going to the highland games, and watching the athletes participate in the sport. Ed would sit and listen to the Scottish music, as well as the bagpipes and drums. These will be the times I will always cherish. Ed loved being with his family, spending time with his grandchildren, and his wife of 30 years.

Ed was an exceptional man, father, husband, grandfather, and friend. During his younger years, he was a member of the Elks Lodge (so I’m told), he assisted his parents with many charity events. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic church in Grand Junction, Colorado, and after moving to Tucson, he attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, as well as St. Odilia Catholic Church. Many people don’t realize that Ed touched so many lives, and so many remembered him for being a hard worker, as well as his selflessness when someone needed help.

He is survived by his wife Alexandra, Lisa Gentry (stepdaughter) grandchildren Rachel Collazo (Victor) great grandson Ezra, grandsons, Rebel Alan, Connor Matthew, and Tristan Gentry, James Michael Sanders (Jessica) stepson, granddaughters, Cheyenne, Autumn, and Emma Jo. Sons, Michael S. Distel, granddaughter Samantha), Travis Distel (Christy) grandchildren Alyssa, Matthew, Marcos, Andrew Distel. He is also survived by his brother Scott Munro (Holly) and niece Hannah Mitchell, great nephew Dorian, Jordan Munro (Heather) great nephews Zeke and Zane, and Elliott Munro (wife Stephanie), great niece Abbie, and great nephews Jacob, Jordan and Luke.

Edgar is preceded in death by his parents George H. and Anita F. Munro, Eddie John Distel, and son Ryan Distel.
