Obituary of Jason Hayward
Jason W. Hayward, a lifelong resident of Tucson, passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born on February 17, 1932, the beloved only child of Jason W. Hayward, Sr. and Lulu Bartlett Hayward. While attending Tucson High School, Jason met the love of his life, Wyn, with whom he shared a long and loving marriage. Jason was a man of great resilience and was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Hayward, and is survived by his devoted wife, Wyn, his loving daughters, Debbie Hayward (John) and Julie Perry (John), his cherished granddaughters, Jacqueline Perry, Jessica Perry, and Jillian Perry, his nephew John Heidel, Jr. (Karen), his great nieces Jennifer Heidel and Andrea Just, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Jason possessed an extraordinary talent for building and fixing anything he set his mind to. From boats to houses, cars to airplanes, he could tackle any project with skill and determination. In fact, he even constructed his own Christian Eagle II aerobatic airplane. Aviation was a lifelong passion for Jason, and he nurtured this interest from a young age. His dedication to flight led to him winning the International Free Flight Model Aircraft contest, sponsored by Plymouth Motor Corporation, and earning a scholarship for pilot training. Remarkably, Jason obtained his pilot license at the tender age of 17. Throughout his life, he actively participated in boat races, car shows, aerobatic competitions, and air racing, ultimately earning the title of Arizona aerobatic state champion in Sportsman.
In 1950, Jason embarked on a remarkable 42-year career at Tucson Electric Power, where his dedication and expertise made a lasting impact.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Jason was a remarkable husband and father. His warm sense of humor, kindness, unwavering principles, wisdom, and boundless generosity endeared him to all who knew him. The memories of his love and guidance will forever be treasured.
