Obituary of Stewart Martin Startt, Sr.

Obituary for Stewart Martin Startt Sr. 

 

Born in Easton, Maryland on June 23, 1937, only child of Glenn & Christine Startt.  Died June 25, 2023, at the age of 86.   

 

He attended Easton High School & St. Joseph’s Catholic School for Young Men.  Graduated from Villanova University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  He was employed by Thiokol Astronautics Corp & he helped design the Retro Rockets that put Surveyor I on the moon.  Stewart went on to test weapons at Aberdeen Proving Grounds & Edgewood Arsenal.  Stewart then went on to work for General Electric Environmental Systems on an ore carrier that changed effluent into potable water.  In a joint project with G.E. and the U.S. Navy, Stewart also performed underground tests in Nevada – (Area 51???). 

 

Stewart was a test engineer for 22 years & became a project engineer, marketing architectural and engineering services.  He was extremely successful in marketing clean room technology, especially in the United States & Europe.  He accrued millions for his employers.

 

Stewart is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Lou.  His four children, Christine Startt, Michele Antle, Stewart Startt II, and Kevin Startt.  Patriarch of 16 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. 

  

Among Stewart’s other accomplishments, he was a youth ministry leader at St. Odilia’s Roman Catholic Church & also a lecturer/instructor for Sales and Marketing with a Purpose.  Stewart was also a superb baker of rolls, passing on the secret Startt Family roll recipe to a select few! 

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, 11:30AM at Adair Funeral Homes-Avalon Chapel. 8090 N Northern Avenue, Oro Valley AZ 85704. 

 

In lieu of flowers, Stewart is asking that donations be made to the St. Odilia’s Roman Catholic Church Roof Repair Fund.
