Obituary of Ignacio O. Medina
It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Ignacio O. Medina (Weaver) from Tucson, surrounded by his loved ones, on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Weaver was born on August 18, 1939, in Clifton, Arizona. He was the son of the late Ignacio Sr. and Genevieve Medina. Weaver was also preceded in death by his daughter Evelyn Medina, who welcomed him into heaven and by his two older brothers, Frank Medina and Hubert Medina.
Weaver was happily married to Ida for 60 years and 11 months and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Denise Tatum and Evelyn Medina.
He was one of the last original cowboys. He started breaking horses at a very young age. He loved hunting deer and elk on horseback and also enjoyed fishing. He served in the Marines and received an honorable discharge. Out of all his interests in life, his greatest love of all was spending time with his family and friends.
Weaver was known for many things, being a great cook, making the best salsa and having the most interesting and adventurous stories.
Weaver was employed as a journeyman painter with Phelps Dodge Corp. for 26 years. He later gained employment with Sunnyside School District in the Maintenance Department and retired after 16 years.
He was a loving Father, Grandfather, and Uncle. He is survived by his wife, Ida, who first and foremost he greatly loved and respected, his daughter, Denise (Rick) Tatum, four grandchildren, Mace Fonoti, Kimo Fonoti, Derrick Tatum and Jolene Tatum Stockburger, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter who all love him wholeheartedly. He touched many lives over the years and we his family and friends are blessed to have known him. He will forever be missed and loved.
May we all carry his stories forward.
Memorial church services with Rev. Dr. Mack Sigmon officiating will be held on Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 East University Blvd, Tucson, AZ.
