Obituary of Dave Nott

Dave Nott died on March 13, 2023, a sudden end to a progressive illness.  Born January 14, 1939, at home in Newport, Ohio, the only child of Ted and Myrtle Nott.  He grew up along the Ohio River, played baseball and basketball and graduated from Newport H.S. in 1956.  He graduated from Marietta College in 1962, and continued at Ohio University.  Upon completion of his M.A, he headed west to the Univesrsity of Ariizona where he joined the faculty teaching speech and assisting with the debate and forensics program.  Within two  years, he was the director of that program.  In 1969, Dave returned to Ohio University to complete his Ph.D.  He and Jane were married in December, 1970.  The following summer, with Ph.D. completed, they moved to McAllen, Texas, for Dave to direct the debate program at Pan American University.  After a year there, he and Jane returned to Tucson and the U of A.  In 1972, they bought the house that has been their home ever since, a home full of memories and loved by him.  His 38 years at the University of Arizona included directing the debate and forensics program, teaching the business communication course taken by hundreds of business students, serving as head of the Radio/TV Department where hs also directed the department's internship program, as a Faculty Fellow and as a faculty member in the Eller College Entreprenuer Program.  Dave was a successful business communication consultant for businesses and  government agencies in Tucson and the U. S. Army.  His U. S. Army consultant contracts included programs across the country and in Korea and Japan.   He is survived by Jane, his wife of 52 years and their daughters Jennifer Thompson (Mike), Stephanie Dey (Scot) and Rebecca Lea (Matt); and son Mike (Stefanie) and daugters Susan Rae (Rusty) and Deborah Coronado (Tommie) from his first marriage.  Eight grandchildren love and will miss Gramps. Dave loved U of A sports and NFL games, road trips, his family and life.  He is already missed by Jane, his children and grandchildren, a large extended famly and many friends and former students.

 

Memorial Service is Wednesday, March 22 at 2:30 p.m. At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
