My sincerest condolences to the Skelly family as I was stopped in my tracks today when I heard Joe had passed. I met, and became good friends with Joe and Don as a member of The Pit at SUNY Albany. And who do I see in the IBM Kingston Cafeteria on my 1st day of work there but Joe Skelly. We picked up right where we left off. We lost touch when Joe and Rose moved to Tuscon a few years later. I still remember how Joe could remember blow by blow about what seemed to be everything that happened to him. Made for some great stories! RiP my friend.

Still hard to deal with Joe's passing.
He never complained about his physical aliments. He was always upbeat and positive.
It it wasn't for Joe recommending the surgeon who should perform my difficult and complex neck surgery I would probably still be in pain and have difficulty walking. Joe, I didn't thank you enough.
The weekly nickel/dime poker game now has a touch of sadness with your absence.
We had fun playing 1960's television trivia.
R.I.P. my friend.

I was so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He was a good and wise friend. I had many wonderful times with the Skellys during those Red Hook years.
Joe gave me advice one time that was life changing. When I joined the Air Force in 1981, they offered to send me back to college for either an electrical or aeronautical engineering degree, letting me choose which one. I called Joe and asked him his opinion—electrical or aero. He unhesitatingly advised me to choose electrical engineering. Joe was right—it was and has been the best choice for me. I am so grateful for his wise counsel.
My deepest condolences to Don, Bob, Chuck, John, Mary Ann, and all the Skellys.

So very sorry to learn of Joe's passing. Great memories of Joe's great abilities in the classroom, as well as on the athletic fields at Red Hook High School. It was privilege to have Joe as a student and as terrific football player on the 1974 UCAL championship team. My sympathies to the wonderful Skelly family. Rest in peace Joe.

Jose! Very sad to hear of your passing. With all the medical procedures you endured over the years I was starting to think of you as indestructible.
Although Joe and I unfortunately lost contact with each other these past few years I have many good memories of him and his family. Our families spent many enjoyable hours at each other’s homes for BBQ’s, swimming and so forth. The kids have very vivid memories of hanging out and playing video games with Jackie and Beth - memories which were even brought up during this past Thanksgiving. My most enduring memories though are undoubtedly those many times we’d hang out on either of our back patios just talking and enjoying the sun, the kids playing in the pool, and maybe even a cigar and cold beer or two ;)
Joe was a good egg and a good friend. He worked hard and cared about others. That became even more apparent during his stint as acting department manager. It was a job he did not take lightly and others benefited from his approach to it.
One of the things that stands out prominently in my memory of Joe(other than all his accidents and broken bones over the years) was his incredible memory. It’s no exaggeration to say that he could and often did recount the stroke-by-stroke details of a 10 or 20 year old golf game to include the detailed weather and even the color clothes worn by his fellow players - simply amazing.
Well Joe, I wish we hadn’t lost touch and I could have heard a few more golf stories. All the broken bones and pain are finally behind you now. I hope you’re on one big beautiful golf course after another hanging out with golfing legends, trading stories, taking pain free shots and making many a hole-in-one, and of course - having a cigar and cold beer or two…
Rest in peace my friend,
Steve
