Obituary of Amelia Moreno

Amelia Moreno was born on February 4, 1943, to Blas and Gorgonia Valles in Chihuahua, Mexico, and passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022. She came to the U.S. as a two-year-old, along with her siblings, Inez, Lino and Lydia. The family traveled throughout the Southwestern states following work, during which time her sisters Maria, Estella, Juana, and Virginia were born. Amelia then settled in Tucson, Arizona where she met Rodolfo Moreno, whom she married and then had Rodolfo Jr and Sylvia (Paul, her favorite son-in-law). After their divorce and Rudy’s subsequent death, she worked hard to improve her education and provide for her children. She worked in various roles and eventually found her way to Van Tran (Sun Van) from where she retired.

Amelia met Juan Moreno through a mutual friend and spent the next 38 years with him at her side. During their early years together, they would dance away the weekends and always shared a love of music. There is always music playing at their house and when a good song came on, she picked up the nearest grandchild to dance with. She was the best Nana to her grandchildren Adria (Jon), Ginette (Colton), Emily, Alejandra, Rudy III, Iliana, and Destiny, and great-grandmother to Selina, Nehemiah, Avery, Luther, Tony, Nova and Braxton. Amelia loved nothing more than spoiling her grandchildren and settling down for the night with them to watch a classic Disney movie, especially “The Jungle Book” which was her favorite. She was incredibly thoughtful and was always ready to provide breakfast burritos before a day trip to Mt. Lemmon. Amelia was a very funny person with a great sense of humor, and her grandkids have many funny Nana stories.

She was a strong, proud, and fiercely independent woman who passed on those traits to her descendants. Although in later years, dementia would rob her of her independence, it never took away her spirit, humor, or fortitude. After becoming ill, Amelia went to live in Cottage 2, at Pacifica Senior Living, under the excellent care of Raquel, Rosa, Becky, Kadar, Eva and many others. She received outstanding care and came to love the “really good people” (her words) who cared for her. We the family, are thankful for the love and care showed to her by all the staff members, and we appreciate you. We would also like to extend our thanks to Michelle, at Casa de la Luz Hospice, for her kindness and care.

Amelia lives on in our hearts and in our memories.
