Obituary of Lucy S Chavez

Lucy Chavez (94) joined our Lord in eternal rest on October 7, 2022 in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Morenci, Arizona on June 25, 1928. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Rafaela Stella, her husband of 61 years Edward E. Chavez Jr., grandson Jeffrey Kennon, and great-grandson, Eryx Mai.

She is survived by her children Edwina Gardner of Los Lunas, NM, Richard Anthony Chavez of Tucson, AZ, Christina Kennon of El Paso, TX and Stephanie (Gerardo) Lopez of Tucson, AZ. She was dedicated to her grandchildren, Elena, Adron, Erik, Nicole, Richard Michael, Edward Joseph, Leah and Lucia who all loved hearing her stories before they went to sleep. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Jacob, John, Leon, Theron, Elijah, and Camden, and one great-great grandson Carlisle who were very special to her. She had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who loved going to see Uncle Eddie and Aunt Lucy in Vanadium where fun, snacks, and love waited for them.

Lucy was raised in Mogollon, NM and in Silver City, NM. She and Eddie lived and raised their children in Vanadium, NM. She first worked at the Ford Motor Company in the late 40’s after graduating from high school. After raising her children, she received a Bachelor’s degree at Western New Mexico University. She then worked at the Grant County Assessor’s office. Lucy was a substitute teacher for Cobre Consolidated Schools and a library assistant at the Bayard Public Library. Lucy was a religious education teacher for Our Lady of Fatima in Bayard, NM for many years. She was an avid walker and swimmer but reading and watching murder mysteries were her favorite pastimes.

She will be laid to rest with her husband at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, Ft. Bayard, NM at a future date.

Adair Funeral Homes in Tucson, AZ is handling final arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to United Cerebral Palsy would be appreciated.
