I hate to hear about Darryl going west.
Had many good times having several cold ones and sharing stories.
I will miss my friend.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941

Darral Dean taught me the real meaning of a soulmate Friend. The days and nights we spent fishing on his boat in the Keys are the best memories of my life. We met by chance or by luck when he replied to my adv for a partner in my A-36 Bonanza aircraft. We spend many days flying to breakfast and lunch at many airports. The best times were when we flew down to Marathon Key on Friday's fished from his boat all weekend and flew back to Punta Gorda on Monday. We did that for several years and it was the best times anyone could ask for. We built up a strong relationship and understanding of what life was all about. Unfortunately that ended after Hurricane Charley when Darral and Becky decided to move to Arizona. We talked weekly and visited them once. In 2019 Darral inspected a Cessna 182 in Tucson that I was interested in buying. I ended up buying the airplane and went to Marana to stay with Darral a couple of days and then with Darral as my co-Pilot we flew the airplane back to Punta Gorda. We made 2 stops on the way - one in Texas and had a wonderful dinner at a very special restaurant in a small Texas style town. Darral spend a couple of days here with my wife Grata and myself. Grata fixed a special authentic Chinese dinner for Darral and I never seen him enjoy a meal so much. Since that time he has been promising to come back to Florida and have another meal and visit. Darral we will always remember the wonderful times together and always have a place for you at our table and in our hearts. Larry & Grata

Darral instilled in me the true meaning of male bonding. Our flying weekends to Marathon and fishing in the deep waters of the Keys will be with me forever. He started as a partner in my airplane and became my soulmate. Our times together flying, fishing, laughing, working, crying are implanted in my soul. Darral now you can be with me in spirit always.
