Renate, this is Michael Maxwell, Charlie’s roommate and fellow medic from Pinder Barracks. I am very saddened by this news. My heartfelt condolences to you and his family. I’ve searched for nearly fifty years for Charlie, always using Middletown, called all over. He was my best friend in Germany, I admired his intelligence and dreams of the medical field. I found Fred Krantz and we met and shared memories, it was very nice. My wife and I are retired in the mountains of Northern California, we got a couple acres, some farm animals, life is precious. Please drop a line if you’re comfortable. I found out a couple weeks ago and printed his picture, he had not changed much, was he a jolly kinda guy? Anywaze! Hope this message finds you as happy and healthy as you can be at this time.

Charlie's wisdom and kind spirit brought light to the world. He had the ability to truly listen to what I had to say and always gave great advice. He had a gentle nature and would make me laugh like no other. He was so smart, yet so humble. An honorable man and friend. I will miss your words of wisdom, your jokes, and your overall goodness Charlie. Tati and Eli, we love you both very much and are always here for you. Love you and rest easy dear Charlie. Charlie was altogether amazing, strong and hilarious. Ever since I was a little kid, he always made me laugh. He was like family to me and was so loving, loyal and reliable. When my Dad was in the Intensive Care Unit, Charlie was there with his hand on my shoulder as I cried. I will never forget how he comforted me during such a challenging time. But then again, he was there for me always. I sure will miss you Charlie. Thank you always being there for me. We promise to be there for Tati and Eli too! Until we meet again, Howie Gerhauser

Beautiful Tati, Eli, and Family, Our precious Charlie was like an uncle to our three sons and a brother to us. He was beautiful in every way, He lived a life of inner tranquility, fulfillment, and faith. He saw the good in everyone and everywhere. He had a knack at making all of us laugh, especially our boys. How will we miss your story-telling, Charlie, even if long-winded at times :) You made the most of all that surrounded you: your family, friends, co-workers, our community. You enjoyed the gifts of exploration and nature. You were so smart (I did not even know how brilliant you were until I read this obituary) yet you were so humble. You leave the most beautiful legacy in your beautiful wife, Tati, and most precious daughter, Eli. We will take good care of your girls. They are family to us! Your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was like no other, Charlie. Your life was always guided by His ways! May you be rejoicing in the heavenly realms and know that you have left an everlasting mark in our hearts and minds forever. We love you!
