First and foremost I would like to send my deepest and sincerest condolences to Phuong's family. I am literally just learning of her passing and of course shocked and saddened. I met Phuong about five years ago when I moved back here to Tucson, I would see her regularly at the store where she worked at. She was always very upbeat, helpful, full of wisdom with a smile and laugh that could light up the cosmos.
She was most definitely a people person in every sense of the word; we hit it off right away because we'd have these in depth long conversations about life and politics. And I loved that she was always on the correct side of the issues, pro humanity. She told me about her childhood and how it was that she came to this country, how she met her husband, family and so forth. The last time I saw Phuong was abut two or three months ago and ironically our last conversation ended on the subject of a upcoming surgery she was due to have.
I could see the apprehension in her face, I recalled putting my hand on her shoulder and saying "look my friend, I know it's serious but you're going to be just fine, keep the faith." She smiled and that was the last time we spoke. In closing it's rare to come arcoss a person such as Phuong whom I'm sure has touched so many people's lives in a wonderful way. She will truly be missed...

Phuong's smile and upbeat attitude always greeted Susie and I when we shopped early on Sunday morning. She often mentioned how lucky she was to have come to this country and she passed that sentiment forward in dealing with those who were not well off. Her optimism and charity are legacy traits we should all remember and demonstrate in Phuong's memory.
