Obituary of Mary Erin Cunningham

Mary E. Cunningham passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5^th, 2022 at the age of 83 in Tucson, AZ.  She was surrounded by her family with love and memories during the last week of her life.

Mary is survived by her loyal husband, Jack Cunningham, of 57 years and their 6 children; Maureen (Owen), Michael (Monica), Cathleen (Dave), Bridget, Monica (Tyrone), and Kevin; as well as her beloved grandchildren; Cameron, Christopher, Sam, Ravi, Mari, Josh and Callin.

She is also survived by her sister Colleen Perrin and nephews Tim and Chris.

Mary was preceded in death by her son Patrick Cunningham and her brother Howard Miller. 

Mary was born in Chicago, IL and lived there with her family until 1955 when they moved to Tucson, AZ.  Mary graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1957 and then moved to Greensburg, PA. to attend Seton Hill College and received her degree in Elementary Education.  She moved back to Arizona to begin her teaching career and met her future husband, Jack.  In 1964, Mary and Jack were married at St. Cyril of Alexandria Church and started a life together as an Air Force military family that lasted 20-years.  After retirement, Mary and Jack moved back to Tucson and made it their home for the past 47 years. 

Mary had many interests and organizations that were important to her throughout her life including La Leche League, Merilac Lodge, Right to Life, St. Cyril Church and school.  She loved nature, plants, animals and taking family photos.  Mary loved being with people and would talk with anyone she met. She was a true social butterfly. She spent over 10 years as an Early Childhood Teacher working in several preschools.  After retiring, she dedicated the rest of her life to her grandchildren. She loved exploring every part of Tucson with them including museums, libraries, festivals, zoos, farms and especially the Tucson Botanical Gardens.  The time she spent with her grandchildren gave her tremendous joy.  Mary will be dearly missed. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 13^th at 10:00 am at St. Cyril of Alexandria Church located at 4725 E Pima St Tucson, AZ 85712.

Visitation will be held prior to the mass at 9:00 am and Rosary at 9:30 am. 

Rite of Committal to follow immediately after the mass at All Faiths Memorial Park

2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes Tucson, AZ 85748 in Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Cemetery.
