I was Jim's Battalion Surgeon during his tour in the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam. I knew him very well and was always impressed by his kind, easy-going manner. No matter the task, Jim would step up and offer to take it on. He was a very brave combat medic and I know there are men alive today because of his skill and courage to get to them while under fire and save their lives. As "grunts" most of us used some very "salty" language, but I honestly never remember a single curse word coming out of Jim's mouth. He was always a gentleman in my presence. He will be missed by all his brothers in the Band of Brothers.

My condolences to the Whitmore Family. My brother Richard Forte served with Jim in Vietnam and became good friends. I had the honor to meet Jim at the Band of Brothers reunion in Kentucky. I was grateful to have spent that time with him.

I remember the days our kids played in the neighborhood park. Jim and I were two kings of the children, basking in the joy of seeing our kids having fun rolling in the grass and chasing each other. We chatted a lot, about weather, family, work, even politics. We saw the kids growing from toddlers to early teens. Then they are gone from home, and we grow older and wiser. Jim was so gentle, so caring and so cheerful to be around. He was a neighbor and a friend that I had wished for and have had. Rest in peace, Jim!

Jim was one of oldest and best friends ever. We basically moved to Tucson together in the spring of of 1975. I met Jim Labor Day Weekend 1967 playing touch football at the athletic field at Western Michigan University, our alma mater. We passed through the years as great, great friends, lived together in many houses in Kzoo and Tucson. It is beyond words how much Jim Whitmore meant to me. Jim, your brotherly counsel will be with me for all the rest of my days. See ya on down the trail mi mejor amigo. Lovingly, Greg Toles.
