Obituary of Kylah Rae Martinez

Kylah Rae Martinez was born on January 16, 2000, in Amarillo, Texas.  After a 3 year battle with Lupus complications, she went to Jesus on February 9, 2022.

Ms. Martinez was studying Youth Ministry at Oklahoma Wesleyan University when she began her Lupus journey and was forced to pause her education. Over the next 3 years Kylah spent much time in and out of the hospital and she grew a genuine appreciation for her nurses taking care of her.  She decided once her medical condition was stable, she would to return to school to pursue a nursing degree to help others suffering from illnesses.

Kylah had a passion for dancing and tumbling.  She admired God’s beauty in sunsets and in nature while hiking.

Those who met her describe her as thoughtful, loving, giving and selfless.  She always had a smile on her face, even through the pain.  There was never a dull moment around Kylah as her other faces were silly, comical and zany.  Sometimes she would have a goofball dance to go with the faces!

Her faith was unshakable and she often shared this faith with others who were battling life challenges or illnesses. She loved talking with people and learning their stories, explaining the hope there is in God.

Kylah is survived by her blended family including her parents, David (Chrissy) Martinez and Nichole (David) Monrreal, three brothers David, jr, Austin, Collin and one sister Ava, step-siblings Jon, Christian, David, Hannah and Selah, grandparents Chris Traylor, Ray (Arlene) Traylor, Mary Leal, Ruben (Marina) Martinez, uncles Louis (Esther) Traylor, Robert (Zaeneb) Traylor, Gilbert Martinez, Michael (Gracie) Martinez, Stephen Martinez, the love of her life Francisco Gomez, two nieces and many cousins.

Kylah’s celebration of life was held on February 24, at Calvary Chapel (West).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of Southern Arizona.
