Obituary of Charles Vernon Sherwood
Charles Vernon Sherwood Sr., age 84, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on February 27, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Charles was born in November 1937 to Troy and Lottie Sherwood in Clovis New Mexico. He married his high school sweetheart, Eva Louree on May 19, 1957.
He attended Clovis New Mexico Public Schools graduating in 1956 and continued to Eastern New Mexico University; the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science; and Robert O. Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico. He served active duty in the United States Army from January 1959 to January 1961 and active reserve until Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1963.
He was Licensed by the State Board of New Mexico Embalmers and Funeral Directors. Throughout his career in the funeral business, he held positions in a variety of capacities. Most significantly, Owner Sherwood Mortuary, Clovis New Mexico; General Manager for Strong-Thorne Mortuary, Albuquerque New Mexico; Regional Manager for Loewen Group International; and Manager for Adair Funeral Home, Tucson Arizona. He served as Vice Chairman of the New Mexico State Board of Thanatopractice and was a board member of the New Mexico Funeral Directors Association and a member of the National Funeral Director Association. He was also a member of the Albuquerque Rotary Club. He lived in Albuquerque from 1971 to 1998 then moved to Tucson, Arizona.
Charles enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, and trips to Las Vegas with his family. Above all else, he loved and enjoyed his family and kept them safe and well cared for throughout his entire life. He possessed the unique combination of intellect and charisma to have a conversation with anyone he met. He had a hilarious since of humor which he somehow maintained in every situation. He was a hero to many and impacted the lives of countless people. We love you Dad. You will truly be missed.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years Eva Louree Sherwood of Tucson; sister Imogene Hubby of Clovis New Mexico; son Charles V. Sherwood jr. of Tucson; son Thomas E. Sherwood of Swansboro North Carolina; daughter Janet M. Rodriguez of Tucson; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Troy and Lottie Sherwood, brothers Dale and Virgil Sherwood and his son James W Sherwood.
A memorial service will be held April 11, 2022 beginning 10:00 am
