Gregory Hagedon

Obituary of Gregory G. Hagedon

Gregory (Greg) Gross Hagedon, 74, Tucson, Az., passed away on September 14, 2021. Son, Brother, Father, and Grandpa. Born May 1947 to Lt. Col. George and Jean Hagedon, in Toledo, Ohio.  Greg is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his younger brother Mark Hagedon and nephew Larry Turner.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Michael and Erin Hagedon, along with grandchildren Christopher and Prisca; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Mary Beth Hagedon;  sister, Kathy Hagedon; sister-in-law, Kim Hagedon;  brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Katie Hagedon; sister, Karen Hagedon Wigtil; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

In his younger years, Greg was an avid spelunker.  He explored many caves around the Tucson area and even mapped Crystal Cave. Greg proudly served in the Army in Vietnam early in his life.  He returned to the States and finished his bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Arizona. However, geologists were not in high demand when he graduated. He eventually landed a job in the fledgling field of computer troubleshooting and repair. The skills he developed led him to work for Asarco Mines maintaining the milling computers. Eventually this led him back to the University of Arizona Steward Observatory as the guy who built, maintained, and repaired state-of-the-art computers and networks for the astronomers to be able to touch the stars.  Each one of us has been the recipient of computers, parts, and repairs which he offered freely when we were in need.  He was a Microsoft master and would have fun breaking the operating system (blue screen of death) just so he could figure out how to fix it. He was a Trekkie and Star Wars lover, and connoisseur of all things Lego. Greg also loved his time teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

We are all so heartbroken at the loss of Greg.  The family memories are so cherished. We will always remember your sense of humor and mean "hearts" card playing strategies. You had a fun, quirky way of telling stories and making animated sounds for emphasis followed by a contagious laugh. Quietly generous to a fault, you were willing to give without hesitation. The world has lost a very wise man. We love you always.

His funeral service will be held at Adair Funeral Home Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave., Oro Valley, AZ 85704, Tuesday, September 28, 2021.   Viewing will start at 9:00 am with service beginning at 10:00 am. The burial ceremony will be held at the Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at Marana, 15950 North Luckett Rd. Marana, AZ 85653, Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 9:00 am.
