Jimmy Edward Rico

September 9, 1940 – January 28, 2021

Jimmy Edward Rico, age 80, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away at home on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Jimmy was born September 9, 1940, in Los Angeles, California. His family moved to Tucson when he was about 5 years old. Jimmy graduated from Tucson High School in 1959 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Navy. He returned to Tucson in 1963 after completing his time in the service.

Jimmy married Linda Chavez on June 12, 1965. They were married for over 55 years and had three sons, David, Mark, and Gary Rico. Jimmy was a loving husband, supportive father, and doting grandfather.

Jimmy worked for his dad at Rico’s Custom Cabinets for many years until he moved on to working for various other construction companies as a Project Manager and Estimator. Jimmy was a Master Carpenter who learned his trade from his father and passed down his knowledge and skills to his three sons. Jimmy made many beautiful cabinets and doors that can still be found all around Tucson and in his home to this day.

Jimmy joined the International Optimist Club in 1971 and became a lifetime member. Jimmy held multiple offices within his own charter – The Pueblo Optimist Club. Throughout his membership Jimmy worked with at-risk youth supporting their development and bringing positivity to their lives and the community.

Jimmy was an avid reader and storyteller. He was always up for a game of dice, cards, poker, or any board game. He was also a passionate Wildcat fan and really enjoyed watching the games with family and friends. Jimmy was incredibly relational and was able to engage in a conversation with anyone across all walks of life. Jimmy and Linda loved traveling together and spent the past 10 summers in the White Mountains enjoying the cooler temperatures.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Linda Rico, son’s David (Barbara), Mark (Amy), Gary (Sharon) and his 8 grandchildren (Gabriel, Rory, Ethan, Quinn, Seth, Isabella, Olivia, and Gavin). He is preceded in death by his parents David and Martha Rico and his sister Linda Giacoletti.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a small service was held for his immediate family. Once restrictions are lifted the family hopes to have a Celebration of Life for Jimmy.
