I am sorry for Mr. Averitt's passing. He was a beloved teacher of mine and sure he was of many. If only all teachers were like him, we all would have been better for it. I am saddened I never told him that. I do feel though, he will know everyone's love for him. I am sure his cup will runeth over. May God bless you Sam for your good heart and soul.

I am so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I was blessed to have him as my teacher as a Sophomore and then as a Senior. Sam was one of the sweetest men I have ever known. He was kind & compassionate, funny. He had the best smile. I used to stop in periodically at Gift Millennium to visit. I am praying for your family during this time of loss. Rest in peace, Sam. You were a blessing to many students whose lives you touched. Cathy (Waldon) Tullgren

Gretchen, Spencer and Lorraine and family, Sam was my supervising teacher when I student taught at Sunnyside HS in 1972. He started my career there and my involvement with Student Council. We became family friends and have spent time in Alaska, Tucson, etc. for almost 40 years. For all those great times, I thank you Sam, more than you will ever know. You will be missed in many areas in Tucson. Your work at Sunnyside, a bussinessman and Hangar, your charity with Big Brothers, Community Food Bank and many more touched so many for good. A strong, smart, funny, hardworking man cared for others above and beyond. You touched so many lives all over the city for your whole life. We will miss you deeply but our memories will live in our hearts forever. Thanks for all you taught us over the years. Giant Hugs, blessings and prayers for your family and friends.
