Dear Kathleen and family,
I worked with Lauren at Santa Clara County Parks and always admired her talent and enjoyed her sense of fun and adventure. It was a special time for many of us, working together as a small group of planners and landscape architects to connect people with nature. I know that Lauren carried on in that spirit where ever she went. I am saddened by her passing and know that you miss her so much. My heart goes out to you.

Lauren, a bright light to all...the dearest of friends or the clerk at the market. I knew her through her position as a Park Planner in Santa Clara County, California. She was a visionary and brought an artistic eye to the planning of parks and open space. She listened to the needs of the community, incorporating use demands while always maintaining her role as a steward to the environment. Her grace, intelligence, character, ability to listen and creativity brought respect from all who worked with her. As an Agency Director, I saw her as a rising star in a complex organization that, being part of County Government had its fair share of politics to navigate in doing the work of the people. We stayed in touch following my retirement. I cherish the friendship that grew out of mutual respect and admiration.

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Lauren very well. But I was fortunate to have married her cousin, Mike. My heart goes out to Aunt Jo and Kathleen. I spoke with Lauren after her Aunt Betty died. I heard such kindness and concern in her voice, reminding me of Aunt Jo. Lauren was truly a beautiful spirit. Peace and comfort to you as you remember her

My Raven Sister Lauren holds a special place in my heart. We all have so many unique and extraordinary memories of Lauren and how she impacted each of us. Her imprint on us takes so many forms and here are some attributes that stood out to me...welcoming smile, kind words and presence in every aspect of her life, extremely methodical and organized, ethical and competent whether on the job or just moving through a regular day, appreciation for all living things, plant and animal, phenomenal artist, exceptional cook and extremely fit. Most remarkable was her love for her partner Kathleen. They modeled the the very best in loving relationships. I marveled at how beautifully they interacted with each other every singe day. Jo, Lauren's mom and Marley also enjoyed this level of love and devotion from her. We shared many annual adventures with our Raven Sisters...North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Chiricahua Mtns and numerous trips exploring the wonders of No AZ. I have dedicated the Great Orion Nebula to Lauren, a beautiful formation located near the tip of Orion's Sword. My heart breaks for Lauren, Kathleen, Jo, Marley and the rest of us who have lost a dear friend.

Lauren, your passion for the immigrant community was evident. You cared deeply about others, asked thoughtful questions, and really wanted to learn more about those affected by unjust or inhumane policies. You will be sorely missed from this earth. Gabi Corrales, Florence Project

It has taken us over a week to even begin to process our grief upon hearing of Lauren's passing; a friend who was so vibrant and full of love and creativity.
When Lauren moved to the desert, the desert embraced her. Now, the desert embraces her in ways she never dreamed. They continue together, sunrise to sunset. A promise kept.
Lauren showed her love for Kathleen in very clear ways. Watching them interact together was so refreshing; an example of how we all should act toward one another.
When we first heard this sad news from Kathleen, we had no words to say how we felt - no words to attempt to comfort her. Saying "I'm so sorry" seemed so inadequate. We still have no words. There are no words.
Yet, what we do have is the enduring memory and example of Lauren's spirit. And if we really try to listen, as in the quote on her desk - “The world is where we quiet to hear it…” - perhaps we can hear her in the "land that filled her soul." - the land that her soul now fills.
With much love,
Michael Clark and H.D. Mitchell

I'll never forget Lauren's bright welcoming smile and enthusiasm for life. I was so honored when Lauren and Kathleen
asked me to officiate their commitment ceremony. They included Blossom, my partner, to help plan the event. What fun we
had planning in the lovely White Mountains.
The community has benefited greatly from Lauren's beautiful spirit.
Kathleen, we hold you close in our hearts.
All our love to you,
Barbara and Blossom

I first met Lauren at the University of Arizona where we were studying landscape architecture. Shortly after graduation we began our careers working together at Pima County Parks and Recreation, where Lauren became my supervisor.
Working closely with Lauren through three different parks bond programs, I learned of this incredible individual who possessed the most loving, caring and compassionate spirit I have ever met. Lauren drew the best qualities from every person she would meet.
It was as if her inner spirit could reach out and touch our hearts and minds with just a smile and a kind word. Through the years getting to know her mom and dad, Jo and Ted Harvey, I soon became aware of where Laurens qualities were nurtured.
I have so many memories of our friendship and the great times we had together that this memorial page could extend forever, as Lauren shall in my heart and mind. We have never truly lost a dear friend as long as what has been imparted to us through our relationship stays with us until some day we see them again. Kathleen, Marley Mae and mom Jo, I pray peace and joy over you as you reflect on the wonderful relationship and the blessing given to you through your time with Lauren. With love.....Carlo D.

Lauren was in my “Zoom” Spanish class and because I was a recent entrant, I didn’t have much chance to know her before receiving the horribly sad and shocking news of her death. However, even with just a little interaction it was clear what a lovely and interesting person she was, and even on a Zoom screen it was clear she was an athletic and active person. This is such an incredible loss for you, Kathleen, and for her whole family. Heartfelt condolences.

My memories of Lauren have come from the letters that she and Kathleen would send to me, my wife, and my children. And although I wish I had more opportunities to spend time with her, Lauren makes me think of qualities I would like to see more of in the world, in people, and, ultimately, in myself. Empathy, compassion, understanding. As an imperfect person, husband, father, and Social Worker, I try to utilize and teach this traits to those I come in contact with. We love you, Lauren and Kathleen. Always.

Thank you so much, dear Kathleen, for this beautiful tribute to a beautiful human being. One of my favorite memories, which is a tribute to the magical love between the two of you, was the time each of you individually approached me "in secret" to purchase the same piece as a gift to the other. What a fun dilemma that was! Yes. Lauren accomplished so much it boggles the mind, and at the same time she revered slowness and silence and just hanging out. She could be very serious and thoughtful, and she could burst into laughter at the absurdity of life, and she was always present. She was organized and tidy, but delighted in your resident packrats (who, honestly, are the pinnacles of order, right?). She smiled approvingly at whoever the creature was that nested behind her painting on the porch. Rats? Bats? Spiders? It didn't matter. I loved that you two named the wild creatures who shared your habitat. Lauren just embraced all life equally and lovingly. She loved the mess, and with you, maintained a neat refuge in the desert. She was a visionary with guts, vulnerability, and a deep well of kindness.
I will never forget you, Lauren. I was so lucky to know you. I still feel the warmth and shine of your smile.

The Hammerquist family loves Lauren!! We enjoyed spending special family events with her, like baptisms and baby blessings and soccer games for our children. We loved having Lauren in our home, and appreciated the love, light and happiness she brought with her. She always offered to help prepare the food for our family gatherings, and was the first in line to help with the dishes. We felt of her loving kindness, contagious energy, and cheerful attitude. It was a joy to see Kathleen and Lauren so happy together.
We are so grateful to have Lauren in our extended family, and will cherish her memory always. All our love to Kathleen, Mom-Jo, and Marley Mae. Love, Mark, Suzie and the crew!

Although I have no chance to meet Lauren in the physical form, Lauren has brought forward her qualities in those who I care deeply about that love her.
I have learned, through loss, that there is no greater testimony to a life fully lived than those who love you carrying you forth into their own sunsets.
Rest in power & in peace, Lauren.
