Obituary of David Stevenson Fox

David Stevenson Fox, 93 years old, was reunited with his eternal sweetheart, Phyllis and daughter, Becky on November 11, 2020, Veteran’s Day.  He passed away peacefully in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in the home of his daughter Martha. David was born on April 4, 1927 in the Cottonwood area of the Salt Lake Valley to Charles and Louise Fox.   He grew up in the Cottonwood area, where he attended Granite High School, graduating in 1945.  Following graduation from High School David served in the Navy.  After his service in the Navy he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States Mission.

David met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Brown, in April 1948 while on his mission serving in the Bluefield, West Virginia area.  After his mission, David returned to West Virginia and attended Concord College.  While in college, David and Phyllis dated and were married on April 15, 1949 in the home of Phyllis’s parents.  Before David and Phyllis were married, they had received special permission to first get married and then a few months later be sealed in the temple.  On June 27, 1949 David and Phyllis were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. David and Phyllis have five children: Martha, Andy, Elizabeth, Becky, and Henry.

David and Phyllis lived in Bluefield while Phyllis taught at Pocahontas High School and David finished school at Concord College.  Shortly after graduation, David and Phyllis packed up their two kids and all their belongings and moved to California, where David had taken a job with Hughes Aircraft Company.   While living in California and working for Hughes, David attended UCLA studying for a master’s degree in Physics. Several years and three more kids later, David and Phyllis packed again and moved their family to Arizona where He continued working for Hughes.  David retired from Hughes after 34 years working for the company.  After retirement David continued doing consulting work for Hughes for several years.

David served faithfully in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He loved the Lord and serving Him was an important part of his life.  One of the many things he will be remembered for was his service as Patriarch, where he had the privilege of giving many of his grandkids their blessing.  He will also be remembered in his professional and church service for wearing a bow tie.  The reason he wore a bow tie was because he hated wearing a tie and he could keep his bow tie in his pocket right up to the time he arrived at work or the church building.

David was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, parents Charles and Louise, daughter Becky and two brothers and a sister as well as many Aunts and Uncles.  He is survived by his children Martha Ludwig (Robert), Andy Fox (Susan), Elizabeth Bowen (Robert) and Henry Fox (Allyson), as well as 18 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

Interment will be at the Binghampton Cemetery in Tucson.
