Obituary of Josephine M. Graun
She was born to Filippo and Angeline (née Gumina) Megna, originally from Sicily, Italy, on August 4, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of twelve children and is survived only by her brother Anthony Megna. Josephine grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Girls Tech High School in 1953.
Josephine was married to Kenneth Graun, Sr. (known as “KC”) on June 12, 1954. She is survived by her loving husband and seven loving children, Kenneth Graun, Jr. (Joann), Alice Kochanski (Michael), Rose Charles (James), Harry Graun (Deanna), Karl Graun (Elizabeth), Phillip Graun and Robert Graun as well as four grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Josephine was a devoted and very loving wife and mother who chose the traditional role of homemaker as many did in her generation. Family was always first to her, standing by for any need or support. Her love was boundless and has been reflected back by the love that each of her children has for her.
Around the time of her marriage, Josephine had worked at Schuster’s department store on North avenue and Cutler-Hammer. After becoming a mother in 1955, she dedicated herself to her children and followed/supported her US Navy husband who was stationed at east coast bases. In the early sixties, she and her husband returned to Milwaukee, where all of her children graduated from high school. In the early nineties, they moved to Tucson, Arizona. During the past 25 years, Josephine was an Avon representative, an activity that caught her interest from a friend in Milwaukee, and volunteered on Sundays to set up a Catholic mass service at a nursing home type facility. Over her lifetime, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting and making delicious Christmas cookies.
Josephine will be deeply missed but her joy for life and inspiration as a most caring mother and person is a cherished gift to all who knew her.
