I joined Ian's fan club several years ago, and over time Shirlie and I became good correspondence friends. We regularly shared many memories, photos, and inside jokes. My sincere condolences to her family and all those whose lives she touched.

My mom Clara and Aunt Shirlie were not only sisters they were best friends. They would talk while the cousins played. Since moving to Tucson she would spend summers in Longview, Washington visiting my mom. For two of those years she cared for my mother while she had Alzheimer’s.
Starting in 2010 she came and spent the summer with me. She was a second mom to me. There is now a large hole in my heart and I feel lost. We had many many good memories, lots of laughs, adventures, and boy did she love popcorn, the color red, and Ian Tyson. Enjoy your new buggy ride Shirlie you’ll be missed dearly

She was the great grandmother to my two beautiful daughters who were both to young to remember her. But they still felt her love. She always sent us a christmas card and she got my daughter her first violin. We stayed in contact mostly through facebook. Messaging eachother and through posts she got to watch them grow from the pictures I posted. She was one of the reasons I posted so many of them. I will miss seeing her comments and chatting with her. Shirley thank you so much for the love you showed me and my babies. We will always love you and will think of you often.

Grew up with her sons Mark and Matt in the 1960's and 70's in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Really enjoyed reconnecting with her on facebook the last few years and hearing all about the town of Cannon Beach in decades past. Glad she was able to share all those precious memories with the Cannon Beach History Center as well! I will think of her when I pass what once was her parent's home in Cannon Beach (now Duane Larson Realty.) Prayers to all the family! <3

I met Shirlie so very many years ago through Ian Tyson's concerts in Longview, Alberta. What a pleasure then to sit with her again in Santa Fe, listening to Ian and Tom Russell. Her heart was as big as her smile. Up among the stars, my dear friend. Let the songs sing out, let your smile shine down on us. Thank you for being you, and for all you did, Shirlie. Much missed, much loved.

Oh my! What a shock! I’ve known Shirlie through the Ian Tyson fan club for ages. We just recently talked about the severity of the virus in Arizona. I also organized her “trip of a lifetime” in Europe just a couple years ago, including a gala river cruise in southern France. Losing a dog lover such as Shirlie says something about the pain of her loss. I will miss her very much. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

I met Shirley in McDermitt which I have always considered my hometown even though we only lived there 5 years. These were the most impressionable years for me, ages 5 through10. While back visiting my uncle Warnie, I met Shirley who was running the DI. She had a small gift shop as a side hustle next to the bar. Warnie was the shop clerk. Shirley was kind, fun loving and a pleasure to be around. We have stayed in touch via Facebook. Sad to read of her passing. One of the good ones who loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.

My cowgirl friend
I remember buying property from her & Jack in 1972. Second time I came too property I couldn't find it. So she showed me and my horse where it was. We became good friends. My stallion was who her mare was bred too, we rounded up cattle together, drank together, rodeo on Hwy 31with lots of friends like Bill Rutledge. Good memories. RIP Shirlie!
