Obituary of Edna Mayree Braun

Edna Mayree Jennings Braun died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at the age of 86, in Tucson, AZ. She was born in Tampa, FL and lived in Sarasota, FL where she graduated from Sarasota High School while studying piano at The Butler School of Music. At Sarasota High she participated in National Forensic League events as well as Florida talent/beauty pageants. Mayree graduated from the College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, OH, with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance. During her freshman year at the Conservatory she met the love of her life, Gilbert L. Braun of Hempstead, NY, a fellow conservatory student. They were married in 1955 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Sarasota, and then made their home in Cincinnati and raised 4 children together. Mayree was a homemaker, a mother, a church organist, an instructor in the Silva Method of Self Mind Control, a school bus driver, and with her beloved Gil, was instrumental in establishing the Healing Intercessors Ministry at Christ Church Glendale, OH. She expressed her creativity through sewing, knitting and crafting, especially making Christmas decorations and artistic backgrounds to accompany her husband’s model train layouts. She was a compassionate conservationist. Mayree was predeceased by her father, Samuel Smith Jennings, USN; her mother, Verdie Mayree Scarborough Jennings; and her husband, Gilbert L. Braun. Her survivors include her sister, Suzette Jennings Blue; half-sisters Retha Jennings Hale and Anita Jennings Fairburn; her son, Karl P. Braun; and her daughters Katherine Braun Morgan, Kristina Braun Mader, and Kimberly E. Braun. She is also survived by 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE A memorial service will be live-streamed beginning at 10:00 a.m. (mountain standard time), Saturday, September 12, 2020, on the Facebook page of Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (program bulletin: GSPTucson.org/bulletins). In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the National Parks Conservation Association or the Hungry Owl Project.
