Obituary of Stephan Gintz
Stephan “Steve” Gintz was born on March 27, 1955 in Tucson, AZ to Fred and Marian (Dolan) Gintz. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Steve passed away at his home on May 13, 2020.
Steve honorably served his country in the United States Army, before entering his career in law enforcement with the United States Customs Service. In 2005, after 28 years of Government Service, Steve enjoyed a brief retirement before assuming the role of Detective with the Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department, Financial Crimes Division in 2008. In 2014, Steve retired from his law enforcement career, dedicating 34 years to service.
Steve was a proud family man and loved life. He married his high school sweetheart in 1976 and kept Tucson as their home where they raised their two daughters and welcomed their grandson. Growing up in an Air Force family, he had a love for aircraft. It was not uncommon to find him roaming around the Pima Air and Space museum, reminiscing on childhood memories and sharing his immense knowledge of the aircraft. Steve loved being a grandpa and found so much joy in spending time with his grandson and helping teach him life lessons, whether it be time in the workshop or projects around the house, or just sharing conversation over a doughnut, those two were inseparable. Always up for crazy adventures, to include running and completing the Dopey Challenge of 48.6 miles in January 2020, you could count on Steve to share stories and laughs. Those who knew Steve, describe him as a wonderful, caring and humble man, always there to listen or lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Steve is survived by his wife, Lana, daughters Heather and Stefnie, grandson Brantley. Brothers Michael (Mary), Dennis (Linda), Jerry (Julie), sister Nancy Rommel (Kendall Bert), aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
