Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Griffis

GRIFFIS, Shirley Elizabeth (GALLOWAY)

85, of Tucson AZ passed away on April 24, 2020 with her family at her side. She was born 11-19-1934 in HORNELL NY. Survived by her husband Retired USAF CMSgt. Alfred Wayne Griffis of 63 years of marriage, 2 sons Matt (Teresa) Griffis in AZ, Roy (Alisa) Griffis in TX, 3 Sisters Rita (Bob) Dye in PA, Judy (Dan) Jones GA and Sally Andrews FL, 3 grandchildren Tanner (Kimberly) Griffis in IL, Sierra (Roy) Riley in FL and Cameron Griffis in TX and 4 great grandchildren Dylan, Dawson, Whitney and Tripp, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her Father Roy Galloway, Mother Mabel Hallenbeck and brother Peter Galloway.

Shirley was a devoted and loving wife during her husband’s military service in the USAF, raising their two sons while living in several different Air Force Bases; Ellington AFB Texas 1958-1959, Fort Hood Texas 1960-1964, Japan 1964, Hickam AFB Hawaii 1964-1967, Dyess AFB-Abilene Texas 1967-1970, Offutt AFB Omaha Nebraska 1971-1973, MacDill AFB Tampa FL 1973-1975, Offutt AFB Omaha Nebraska 1975-1978, Schwaebisch Army Airfield Germany 1978-1980, RAF Mildenhall United Kingdom 1980-82, Offutt AFB Omaha Nebraska 1982-1985.

Shirley and her husband moved to Tucson after her husband’s military retirement in 1985, purchasing their forever home which they have lived in for the last 35 years.

She loved her family unconditionally; she was a Christian woman and always made people welcome into her home. Her wit, sense of humor and love for life was her gift to us all, even to the very end. She was loved by all!

A Celebration of Life was held in her memory with family. Shirley's final resting place will be at ARIZONA VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY, MARANA AZ.
