Obituary of Margaret Cora Bulau

Margaret C. Bulau (Peck), 90, of Oro Valley, Arizona passed away March 6, 2020 at home. She was born on November 16, 1929 in Cortland, Ohio to Howard and Mary (Voorhees) Peck. Margaret moved with her family from Ohio to Tucson, Arizona, where she graduated from Tucson High School in 1947. She spent her working life in the insurance business, as a commercial property underwriter and, eventually, as co-owner of Bulau Insurance Services with her second husband. Margaret was active in professional associations for insurance women and served as a mentor to younger people beginning their careers. Margaret had a knack for making the world around her more beautiful; she loved working in her garden, and could seemingly grow roses under any conditions. In retirement, she devoted her time to making exquisitely crafted quilts, which are cherished by her family members and others who were lucky enough to receive them. Margaret was active in quilt groups, including Bayshore Quilters in Oregon and Mona Lisa Quilters in Oro Valley. Through those groups, she contributed many quilts to charitable organizations, helped spread her love of craft and developed close friendships with other quilters. She also participated in a long-running book club, where she and her friends explored and discussed an enviable breadth of literary subjects. Margaret survived her first husband, Byron T. Bingham, with whom she had four children. They met and married shortly after Margaret graduated from high school and settled, later in life, in Anchorage, Alaska. Following Byron's passing, she met and married Donald A. Bulau in 1972 and became step-mother to his two children. Margaret and Don worked together for many years and eventually opened their own independent insurance agency, Bulau Insurance Services. They were married for just over thirty years, until Don passed away in 2003. Margaret is survived by her brother, Robert Peck of Scottsdale; her sons, David Byron (Janet) Bingham of Oro Valley, Michael Howard Bingham of Green Valley, and Scott Edward (Sue) Bulau of Tucson; her daughters, Sandra Louise Bingham of Oro Valley, Sue Ellen Bingham of Tucson, and Lynne (Richard) Grimwood of Mesa; her grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Bingham, Brianna (J.P.) Green, Amy Bingham, Lisa (Nate) Funk, Lucas Bulau, Marc Bulau, Angie Grimwood and Jason Grimwood, as well as six beloved great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her grandparents, John and Cora (Collier) Peck and Thomas and Margaret (Kaser) Voorhees.
