I haven't seen Tom in many years but I grew up with him in Elkhart, Indiana and went to junior high and high school with him. I have fond memories of shoveling off his parents' driveway and playing basketball in the afternoons in the winter. He was always a decent and unpretentious guy. I was sorry to hear that he had passed. The world is in need of more Tom Sipes.

I am so sorry. The loss of a loved one is so painful. May you be comforted by the scriptures now and in the future. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4; John 5:28. My sincere condolences.

Tom was a protector for us growing up in Hamilton OH. He was very protective of our youngest brother John. Since John had a penchant for going over the fence and Tom was wizard at tracking him down. Sometimes several blocks away. When John had his right leg amputated below the knee, Tom went back to Elkhart to help him transition to his new reality. Very concerned, caring and motivating for John's journey through physical therapy. When traveling out West as youth, Tom, with the shortest legs, always kept up with the hiking pace set by Dad and never complained. He was tough physically. This would later prove beneficial to his tenure on Coach Tom Kurth's Elkhart Central High School Blue Blazer football team. Tom was so proud of his career doc service with the Aurora Police Department. He would regale us with many stories. He had a rep in the department as a magnet for all sorts of difficult situations on patrol. One of my favorite episodes, was when he was sitting in his patrol car behind the "cop" laundry, filling out reports, when an armed robber ran out the back door, gun in hand and right into Tom's patrol car. He had the perpetrator cuffed even before the call came through from the dispatcher. "Suspect apprehended, cuffed, Mirandized, request back-up to collect witness statements so Tom could convey his catch to the station. The four years he lived with us in Tucson, were a series of these memories. He was loved by all the neighbors here for his wit and banter on his walks or when they would be passing by the house. We were blessed to have had such a great brother. Rest In Peace, Tom.

I worked with Tom from the time he started with the Aurora Police Department until he retired. It was my true honor to have worked with him, for me. He was always an inspiration to all the members, and to the public that he served. It has saddened me greatly to hear of his passing, and my prayers go out to him, and to his family. Lt. Steve Harlan (ret)

Tom was a fun guy. A guy who was an active listener and a guy who cared about people. I always enjoyed our visits and our phone chats. Tom, you were loved by many and will definitely be missed. Rest in peace my friend. To The Sipe Family, my prayers for comfort are with you. You will forever have a guardian angel.

This is a picture of Tom at my Retirement Party in 2002. We worked together at APD. When Tom would come to Records for background checks he would give the ladies his spin of the situation at hand leaving everyone in laughter. I'll miss his smiling face. I'm sorry for your loss. From grade school through college he was a friend, teammate, roommate. Afterwards he was a brother in arms. And my best man in 1984. A blessing to have shared life with this man.

Tom was my neighbor and friend from 1985 until he moved to Arizona. We always had a ball at our community yard sales and the backyard bar-b-ques. We have missed him since the move because his smile and laugh could brighten anyone's day. He was a very good neighbor and friend and before I remarried 23 years ago, he was great as my protector if he thought someone was in the area that did not belong. He always spoke so well of his family and I enjoyed some great childhood stories. Thank you for sharing him with us, we will always remember him fondly when thinking of the great times we have had.

Tom and I were in the same APD Academy class in 1980. He was the person that immediately would you would become friends and remain friends forever. Tom had the most infectious laugh and when you would hear it, you knew immediately it Tom. He some how got the nickname of "Tuna-can Tommy" and don't know where it came from but it stuck. Tom was a very good police officer as he was the same as when he wasn't working. You could always count on him. It was sad when he retired but we always thought there will be time to talk again. Tom you will be missed by everyone you touched. May you Rest-In-Peace brother.
