Obituary of Richard Francis Zachariasen

Richard Francis "Dick" Zachariasen, passed away on May 4, 2019 at age 93 in Tucson, Arizona. Born in Milwaukee, he attended Juneau High School, served on a B-29 crew in the Army Air Forces in World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant, and then had a career in the financial services industry, primarily in the credit union movement. He retired from his last position as president of the Falk Corporation Credit Union in Milwaukee in 1986. He also held leadership positions in the Wisconsin Credit Union League and the National Credit Union Association. After Dick retired, he and wife Ginni came to Tucson as snowbirds, finally settling there permanently in 2002. Dick is survived by his "darlin'," Ginni (Virginia Rothwell), to whom he was married for over 66 years, his dearly loved children and their families: Lyn (Zachariasen) and Carver Nixon, along with Meredith (Nixon), Ken and Emma Shafer; Dan Zachariasen, along with Maryn Zachariasen, Rick and Brennan Beahm, and Loryn (Zachariasen), Jacob and Genevieve Sommerville; and Ann (Zachariasen) and George Morrison, along with George Morrison III and William "Billy" Morrison; and many other family members and friends. Dick was pre-deceased by daughter Sue Zachariasen, daughter-in-law Debbie (Peterman) Zachariasen and his parents, Ann (Moebius) Zachariasen and Francis Zachariasen. Dick is remembered for the many wonderful objects he created in wood and other materials, his ability to build or fix almost anything, his amazing luck at card games, his dedication to the credit union movement, and, more than anything, his love for and pride in his family. No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations can be made to the American Legion or the charity of your choice. We little knew that morning, that God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us lovely memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
