Obituary of Catherine Elizabeth Knight

Catherine Elizabeth Knight died unexpectedly due to complications with the flu at Tucson Medical Center on the afternoon of March 23, 2019. She is preceded in death by her father, Gerald E Grieder, and mother, Glenna M (Drown) Grieder. She is survived by her husband, David T Knight, three children Nathan D Knight, Nicholas A Knight (wife Alison) and Danielle L Williams (husband Augustine) with two granddaughters Emily G Kennedy and Abigail R Williams along with sister Debra J Grieder, brother Kevin L Grieder (wife Linda) and brother Carey W Grieder (wife Pam). Cathy was born and raised in Blythe, California where she and David went to high school together and graduated in 1974. Shortly after graduation, the two started dating and were married in 1977. This coming June would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary. The two went to the University of Arizona in Tucson and became involved at St Cyril of Alexandria Parish. Nathan was born was born during this time. After college, they moved to Vancouver, WA (where Nick was born), back to Blythe, CA (where Danielle was born) and then settled in Tucson, AZ in 1984. Cathy worked many years at St. Cyril Parish doing a variety of jobs including receptionist, teacher aide and religious education coordinator. She found joy in many hobbies after an early retirement, including going to yard and rummage sales, taking pictures and scrapbooking. She also took great pleasure in helping care for her two granddaughters. She was practical, honest, compassionate and above all else, generous and loving. Cathy had a strong sense of right and wrong with a thirst for justice and was an advocate for helping the needy. She excelled at being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family and friends with her whole heart and will be greatly remembered and missed by all. A memorial mass will be held St. Cyril Church, 4725 E Pima St, Tucson, AZ on Friday, April 5th, at 1:30 PM with a reception at the church afterwards.
