Dear Evans Family, We've only had the pleasure of meeting Evan a couple of times, but we are forever blessed with his life and legacy. We've also had the pleasure of hearing heartwarming stories about Evan the last few days. I'm struck by the significant pride he has in his children and grandchildren. He surely wanted what was best for his children. It must have been very difficult for him to see two of his children move away, but he lovingly relinquished any protests knowing that his children have found love and success out of state. If you can judge a man by his fruits, Evan certainly produced the most exquisite fruits. His children took the best care of him in his ailing years and took things in stride when his weaknesses got the best of him. In fact, Brett would say on occasion that Evan wasn't in a good place. The freedom Evan's sons gave him by caring for him without judgment allowed him to get "in a good place" spiritually. Evan protected his boys and didn't want them to know how dire his situation was in the end. He continued to attend his grandson's baseball games, carried multiple pictures of Anderson on his phone, found peace at a local church, and quietly slipped away. How appropriate for him to take care of the hard stuff in preparation for baseball season opening. He will be able to enjoy the games without pain knowing his boys and family are together in his honor. I hope you all have a loving ceremony as everyone gathers together this weekend.
