Obituary of David L. Windsor
David L. Windsor, age 97, passed away on February 17th, 2019 in Tucson, Az.
Born in Casa Grande, Az, July 4th, 1921. David grew up in Prescott. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona. He also earned a Master of Arts degree from the U of A. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action at Anzio Beachhead in Italy.
Windsor joined the staff of the Registrar's Office at the U of A in 1945 and served the University for 38 years; first as Veterans Coordinator, then as Registrar, and then as Dean of Admissions and Records. He was Secretary of the Faculty for 25 years. He served under five U of A presidents and saw the student body grow from 2,300 to 35,000. He was active in professional associations and served as an editor for the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and also as President of the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
Community activities included serving as president of the Tucson Kiwanis Club, president of the Tucson chapter of the American Red Cross, secretary of the Tucson Central YMCA, member of the board of directors of the Family Counseling Agency of Tucson, member of the board of directors of the Tucson Shalom House, and active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for seventy-nine years, serving as a Deacon and an Elder.
David was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, his brother Merrill, and his sister Margaret. He is survived by daughter Randi (Tom Roof), grandson Tony Miranda, nieces Wanda Windsor, Peggy Halliday (John), Ann Wilbanks, Cindy Flannery (Mark), Barbara Coombs (David) and nephews Brent Wakefield (Teri), Mike Windsor (Kelly) and many great nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank both The Villas on La Canada and Casa De La Luz for the wonderful care and loving attention they gave to Dad.
A memorial celebration will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd, on April 6th, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Presbyterian Church or Casa de La Luz Hospice.
