Obituary of William C. Joynt

William (Bill) Joynt died peacefully on February 2, 2019, at the age of 87. Bill was born February 7, 1931, in Algona, Iowa to the late Charles and Mary (Reinders) Joynt. Upon graduating High School in Emmetsburg, Iowa, Bill went to Coyne Electronic School in Chicago, IL. He met Shirley Mae Smith and they married on September 2, 1950. He worked at Allied Radio during the boom of transistors. Bill was drafted into the Army from 1952- 1954. After basic training he was assigned to the 265th heavy field artillery Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His outfit was ordered to Camp Baumholder, Germany. Returning home from his service, Bill returned to work at Allied Radio in Chicago. He commuted by train from their new suburban home in Streamwood, IL. Bill's love of trains began in his earliest years as his dad, Charles, worked as a station agent for the Milwaukee Road. One of Bill's favorite pastimes as a child was going down to the depot to watch trains and listen to the dispatchers on the railroad phones. His interest in trains carried over to model Lionel trains. He built elaborate scenery and ran his collection of trains in his "train room." Shirley M and Bill raised their two daughters, Marie and Grace and were active and founding members of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Streamwood. Bill became a Deacon in 1983. Bill is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley M. in 2006 and his sister, Helen Guglielmina in 2018. Bill married Shirley J Adam in 2009. They moved to Tucson, AZ, in 2012. He enjoyed living near his daughter Marie and escaping the harsh Midwest winters. He loved his new life in Tucson and enjoyed meeting with his new friends every week for burgers and beer. Bill is survived by his second wife Shirley J Joynt and daughters Marie (Chuck) Wesselhoft and Grace (Dennis) Friend. He was affectionately referred to as "Grandpa with the trains" by his surviving 5 grandchildren. Bill has 4 great grandchildren.The family will hold a memorial gathering in Tucson and a funeral in the Chicagoland area. Details will follow later.
