Obituary of Frederick Lincoln Mitchell

Frederick Lincoln Mitchell Sr., age 90, passed away on January 17, 2019 in the home of his daughter in Tucson, AZ. He was born on September 10, 1928, to Charles Mitchell and Nellie Lentz in Huntingdon, PA. He was named for his grandfathers, Frederick Mitchell and Lincoln Lentz. He joined the Army at age 20 and worked in food service. He was a veteran of the Korean War and later became a paratrooper with the 18th airborne Corp in Fort Bragg, NC. After retirement, he used his G.I. Bill to go to Pima College and became a Registered Nurse. He worked at Kino Hospital as the manager of the medical floor and then as the evening supervisor; retiring from nursing after 17 years. He was also the minister of Bible Wesleyan Church in Tucson for a few years. Fred met nurse Doris Gordon while recovering from a foot injury at the hospital in Indiana, PA. They fell in love and were married on August 9, 1952 and shared 66 years together. Spending time in the outdoors was a favorite endeavor throughout his life, whether hunting, fishing, hiking or traveling to the National Parks. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Mitchell, mother, Nellie Lentz, sister, Anna May Mitchell, brother, Wesley Errott and great granddaughter, Meghann Mitchell. He is survived by wife, Doris Mitchell and children; Fred Mitchell Jr., Karen (Mitchell) Currier and Jeff Mitchell; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at New Life Wesleyan Church, 8900 East Golf Links Road, Tucson, AZ on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm.
