Obituary of Martha Elizabeth Sollenberger
Martha was born in Hagerstown, Maryland and lived most of her life in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1934 and then from Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY in 1937 with a degree in Registered Nursing. On November 18, 1937 she married her husband Aaron B. Sollenberger, Jr. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years during the 1920s and also sang in the choir. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star, Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary where she did volunteer work, Waynesboro Country Club and taught literacy for several years. She was a story time reader at the Alexander Hamilton Free Library to pre-school children. Martha loved being with her family, taking trips with her husband, nature in all aspects, watching and feeding birds and her mischevious squirrels. She was an avid Washington Redskins Football Fan. She also loved to read and do needle work. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Aaron B. Sollenberger, Jr., on July 28, 2000. She was also predeceased by her daugher Barbara E. Sollenberger, son Aaron B. Sollenberger, III. She is survived by her son Stephen S. Sollenberger, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Her final resting place will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
